Global surgery is facing a huge number of problems today. There are 7 Billion people on the planet, and 5 Billion of those don’t have access to safe surgical services. Part of that is due to inadequate training and not being able to access the appropriate content.
Surgery complications and accidents occur on a regular basis - this could be from accidental puncturing, missing critical steps, making small mistakes, and even leaving objects in the body accidentally!
Through medically accurate simulations of surgical procedures, including step-by-step instructions and integrated assessments, the surgical platform Touch Surgery, aims to deliver training to every surgeon around the world - to provide better learning, preparation, and rehearsal of surgical procedures - from 10 specialties.
Touch Surgery’s mobile platform empowers surgeons around the world to deliver better practice to their patients.
Ultimately, the goal is to help provide safe, accessible surgery for all.
— Touch Surgery
Redesigned the Touch Surgery app to improve learning, engagement, and accessibility for surgeons worldwide.
As a Product Designer at Touch Surgery, I led the end to end UX/UI redesign of the mobile app, transforming it from an outdated, crashprone interface into an intuitive, scalable, and accessible learning platform used by surgical professionals around the globe!
📈 User Base Growth from 100K to 2M+ and 500% Increase in Monthly Engagement – The redesigned app attracted a significantly larger audience and encouraged users to return more often and engage more deeply.
🌍 Adopted by 160+ Surgical Residency Programs – Including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford.
📱 Improved Accessibility & Multi-Device Support – Designed for performance across phones and tablets.
The original app suffered from inconsistent UI, high crash rates, poor mobile optimisation, and a lack of engagement. It failed to align with native iOS/Android guidelines and didn’t support offline use, essential for hospital environments.
A full UX/UI redesign, introducing:
A cleaner, consistent design system across platforms.
A simplified learning experience with reduced cognitive load.
Offline simulation access for use in low connectivity hospital environments.
A complete information architecture refresh with updated tone of voice and UI patterns.

The Digital Surgery website was built from the ground up. It was a fairly large project but I was responsible to make it happen and bring it to life. A lot of time and communications had to happen across teams within the company to make sure we achieved what we needed to make it a success. I brought in a Design Consultant / Creative Director to come in and assist with his expertise in website development and how to achieve successful professional impressions. This was critical for when we were pitching to investors at the time.
Since then, Digital Surgery (Touch Surgery) has now been acquired by Medtronic in 2020.
